Elegant at Scale | Powerful in Use
Most large blades sacrifice elegance for mass. This handcrafted D2 steel hunting knife refuses that compromise. The 14 inch spear point blade is unusually slender and graceful for its size. A clean, unadorned satin D2 steel blade that tapers to a precise centred tip with no unnecessary width, no coating, no distraction. Paired with a deep red rosewood handle and warm brass fittings, this is a large blade that is as pleasing to look at as it is capable in the field.
The Blade — Spear Point at Hunting Sword Scale
The spear point on this blade is an unusual and deliberate choice for a large outdoor blade. Rather than the broad, heavy profiles typical of large hunting knives and machetes, this blade tapers elegantly from a wide base to a fine, centred tip — creating a profile that combines the reach of a large blade with the precision of a much smaller knife.
The single edge runs the full 14 inch length providing powerful slicing capability for large game processing, camp tasks, and demanding outdoor work. The spine tapers symmetrically to the same centred tip giving the blade a balanced, classical appearance from both sides.
The clean satin finish on the D2 steel is completely unadorned — no fuller, no coating, no decoration. Just the quality of the steel and the skill of the grind, visible and honest.
A Blade Built for Reach and Power
At 14 inches this blade delivers capabilities that shorter knives cannot match:
- Greater reach for large game processing — covering more surface area per stroke during skinning and quartering
- Superior leverage for heavy camp tasks — chopping, batoning, and brush clearing
- Intimidating presence as a camp tool and collector piece
- Better cutting force distribution across the full blade length during demanding outdoor work
- Versatility across hunting, survival, bushcraft, and camp use
The Steel — D2 at Its Most Refined
D2 tool steel on a 14 inch blade is a commitment to quality that most large blade makers avoid. With 1.5% carbon and 11–13% chromium, hardened to 58–62 HRC, this blade delivers:
- Edge retention that holds through sustained large game processing without dulling
- Wear resistance that maintains the spear point tip through hard outdoor use
- Semi-stainless corrosion behaviour — reliable protection with minimal maintenance
- A steel whose quality becomes immediately apparent in the hand and at the edge
The longer the blade, the more the steel quality matters because a dull or corroded edge on a 14 inch blade is a much bigger problem than on a 5 inch knife. D2 ensures this blade performs at the level its size demands.
Simple care keeps it performing indefinitely — wipe clean after use, apply blade oil periodically, store in the sheath in a dry location.
Full Tang — The Foundation of a Large Blade
The D2 steel travels the complete length of this hunting sword from spear point tip through the brass bolster and the full rosewood handle to the brass pommel cap. One unbroken piece of steel. At 20 inches overall and 530 grams, full tang is not optional, it is what keeps this blade solid, balanced, and safe under hard outdoor use.
The Handle — Deep Red Rosewood with Brass Fittings
The handle on this hunting sword is crafted from deep red rosewood, the richest and most intensely coloured variety of rosewood we use across our collection. The dark reddish-brown tones with natural grain variation create a handle that is visually striking against the clean satin blade and warm brass fittings.
Rosewood at this density is naturally oily and self-maintaining. It resists moisture absorption, temperature changes, and hard use without requiring sealing or treatment. The 6 inch handle length provides a full, comfortable two-handed grip when the situation demands it — useful on a 14 inch blade during heavy camp tasks.
The brass spacer bolster at the blade-handle junction and the matching brass pommel cap ring frame the rosewood beautifully warm gold tones against deep red wood, a combination that gives this hunting sword a refined, almost ceremonial quality that makes it as impressive on a wall as in the field.
